'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith continues battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he remembers the nail-biting closing stages of his team's epic comeback win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The game ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a fan's glasses following the post-goal scrum.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative effort from outside the box, and the defender immediately converted the loose ball before sprinting toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with fans swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

This sealed an extraordinary comeback given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 deep into the second half. During the delirium, there was some unintended consequences. He shared, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result secured a next round game at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a team Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with the London side in February. He had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with the attacker's volley from about 45 yards going in via the bar and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've credited him for taking the effort on from that far out," stated Galbraith, who started in midfield before moving to right wing-back after the team changed formation. That meant getting to grips with Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the Manchester squad who complimented the way his former team played positively.

Guardiola's System

"Fitness-wise they are outstanding but even the basics and basic skills, they can just perform consistently," he explains. "It appears that they never miss a pass and they understand how to manage and neutralize a game. You can feel you're holding your own and then suddenly they will just deliver a through ball past your midfield without you even seeing. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It demands a tough attitude and concentration just to remain competitive."

Welsh Transition

The Welsh side pushed to sign Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at Orient and has swiftly replicated that in south Wales. At the London club he reunited with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in professional games on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a temporary move at League Two the Manchester club, before he departed his boyhood club.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a slightly green going into senior level. I think many athletes would say youth team games is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without real physicality. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to learn quickly."

International Recognition

He has shown that maturation for his team and nation, performing well for his national side, who are fighting to qualify for the World Cup next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has been selected in the last several matches, including two matches fixtures against the German national team. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he handles the football and his knack for a killer pass.

Starting Out

It has been an incredible journey for the kid from the neighborhood in his hometown, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who was raised observing his dad, his father, also a midfielder, play for his father's team.

Red Devils Debut

The player's single match for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the arena covering was sealed owing to temperatures of freezing cold. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he recalls, chuckling. "The preceding week, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and make an appearance at the end was incredible."

Moving On

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged 16? "It was quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I knew I couldn't establish myself at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it became apparent where I believed I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play first-team games. Now I'm slowly climbing the ladder."

Life in Swansea

It is the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Before his recent move to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's so-called player transport, a small coach driven by club employees, the drivers, which transports players to and from training and matches.

"My companions include Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to socialize with the teammates but I'm planning to be the next one to stop using the bus and on the road. Franco is known for his humor; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on the Tube after starting his journey at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
